Add PhotosThe Sheriff Family Cemetery was located near the Wilson Station of the Baltimore and Potomac Railroad in the Kent District (now part of Bladensburg), Prince George's County, Maryland. The property was part of 500 acres of land known as "Beall's Pleasure" that originally was owned by Ninian Beall. The property was divided and changed owners several times but in 1794, the entire grant was owned by Benjamin Stoddert.
The original 500 acres of the Ninian Beall property, "Beall's Pleasure" became the location for Beall, Greenfield, Sheriff and McCormick family cemeteries which are now all defunct.
In 1854, Lemuel Levi Sheriff owned part of the property. It had been noted that the original Beall Family Cemetery was located at the rear of the portion of land where the Sheriff home was located. When he died, the land was willed to his grandsons, George Beall Sheriff, Lemuel Levi Sheriff, Jr. and Dionysius Thaddeus Sheriff. Dionysius obtained the house and land in a suit that was settled in 1866.
On 4 June 1930, some of the family members were disinterred and moved to Rock Creek Cemetery in Washington, D. C.
The cemetery is on private property.
There are no gravestones.
