This graveyard was used from famine times until 1939. Those buried here were from the former workhouse and later the county home. Roscommon County Council bought the site from the Hall family in 1959 for a sum of £10.Grave markers were usually wooden.
The workhouse situated close to the current St.Coman's graveyard was declared fit for the reception of paupers on 5th October 1842 and received its first admissions on the 4th November 1843.
