This family plot is near upper Mill Creek, Hopeulikit and Portal in Bulloch County.
When Greenberry Barnes died in 1891, he set aside 1 1/2 acres to be used as a family cemetery. He instructed his two oldest sons James and Willis to mark it out.His brother Reamer had already been buried there in 1889. He described it as 200 yards southeast of his home.
In 1883, Greenberry had built a large grist mill and owned a large millpond around it. Since his son Willis died in 1903, his son in law Welcome Amos Akins took it over. (Amos married Maggie Barnes, Greenberry's daughter. Amos' father, Robert Akins owned the land north of the Barnes property.
By 1910 BARNES MILL had become AKINS MILL.
