Add PhotosFrankford Friends' Meeting House has fewer than 20 active members and more attenders. They have a paid instructor. It's a multi-age group from age 3 to teenagers. Once a year, they hold a work day at the Frankford Burial Ground. Because the Meeting is so tiny, the Meeting functions as a committee of the whole. They don't have the resources to have adult education, but once a month, the Meeting considers a query after meeting. First Sunday of the month is a multi-age social time. Every 10 weeks, the Meeting hosts a meal for the homeless, which includes children. There is a vibrant feel to the Meeting.
A meeting for Quaker worship known as "Tacony" was established in 1683 by Philadelphia Quarterly Meeting; it became part of a monthly meeting along with the Poetquesink [Byberry] Meeting in 1683. From 1685 to 1805, this meeting was known as "Oxford"; in 1805, its name was changed to "Frankford." It became part of the Frankford Monthly Meeting in 1816. An indulged meeting at Frankford under the care of Green Street Monthly Meeting (variously, "Frankford Friends Meeting, Waln Street," "Frankford Preparative Meeting," and "Frankford Particular Meeting") was granted full Monthly Meeting status by Green Street Monthly Meeting and Philadelphia Quarterly Meeting in 1999, when the name was changed to Unity Monthly Meeting, Frankford. It is currently an active meeting.
