St Mary the Virgin Churchyard

  • Church Street, Eccles, Metropolitan Borough of Salford, Greater Manchester, England
  • 11,943 Memorials added (1% photographed)

The parish is ancient. It's church was founded in 1111, a church was built in the 14thC. The building was restored in 1862. Its registers are complete from 1542. In the last quarter of the 19thC part of a 5thC Celtic cross was unearthed nearby and is now preserved in the parish church.
The church had a graveyard, but burials ceased around 1963, and in 1966 most of the memorials were removed, and the graveyard was laid out as gardens.
However, a few gravestones remained close to the church, these few have all been photographed and are online.
