In a December 22, 1901 the New York Times printed an article about the cemetery, mentioning that the cemetery was located at the corner of Sedgwick Avenue and Fordham Landing Road in the Bronx. The cemetery at the time was in neglected condition, and because of that condition it may no longer exist today. Originally the old burying ground was about a city block square in extent, but what is left of it is scarcely more in dimension than a city lot. A portion of the property was taken by the city in 1875 for the opening of Sedgwick Avenue, and when the Fordham Landing Road was widened about 1896 another section of the ground was cut off for that purpose. The headstones and tombstones marking the resting places of the dead have been broken and overturned, and their fragments encumbered in the ground.

The cemetery is identified as the Berrien Family Burial Ground on page 17 of The Graveyard Shift: A Family Historian’s Guide to New York City Cemeteries, Carolee Inskeep, Ancestry Publishing (Orem, Utah) © 2000.
