Historic Township: March

Hamnett Kirkes Pinhey was a veteran of the Napoleonic Wars who settled in March Township in 1820. In 1827 he provided the land for St. Mary's Anglican Church. When the presnt church started to deteriorate in the early 1900s the congregation relocated to a new church on the 6th Line of March township. The ruins of the original church and the burial ground are situated beside the Pinhey's Point Heritage Site operated by the City of Ottawa for the Ontario Heritage Trust. The cemetery is still operational and is managed by the . The cemetery is on private property and the parish should be contacted for permission to access the graveyard.
