Directions: From AL 157 take Colbert County 57south to Colbert County 61; turn left (east) fir about a quarter of a mile, stopping at a gate in the pasture fence on the left just before reaching the Spring Valley United Methodist Church. The cemetery is in the pasture along the fence that runs behind and to the west from the church (information from 1985) The cemetery was in very bad condition at that time and may have deteriorated since. The name of the cemetery has been designated at Sledge Cemetery because the earliest gravemarker with a date was for a Sledge and because of the number of Sledge graves. A burial notice of Macklin Sledge said that the burial was on the old Ollie Walker place. Oliver "Ollie" Hovater was Macklin Sledge's son-in-law.
Note from Old Bwana: I hate to shatter your dreams. but the so called Sledge Cemetery is a real mess. No fence, most tombstones broken and many sunk into the ground and the others covered with mud and cow pies. I was amazed to find that I had taken those two. I'll go back through my photos and see if I can add any others. It is the kind of un-cared-for cemetery that probably has twice as many graves as are visible. My friend and I had to climb a very high fence to reach it and now that I am over 73 and have a make believe hip installed, I may not be able to return. Wish I had better news. Old Bwana
