There are many traces of Saxon architecture still visible blocked doorways and Saxon long and short stone work dated about 650-680 AD.
St Andrew was the favourite saint of Wilfred bishop of Hexham.
The Norman extensions were carried out after 1165 when the monks from Blanchland Abbey were given land around Heddon and became responsible for the church.
