The following is from the historic cemetery records of the Berks County Assoc. for Graveyard Preservation. There could be facts stated which are not accepted as accurate by some researchers of this family. More detailed history of this family is available on various web sites. "Traveling from Yellow House to Oley on Memorial highway, shortly before junction of Rt 73, turn right on Bertolet Mill road. At stop sign cemetery will be on a noll on the right overlooking the stop sign.
Oley Township: From Rt. 73 .6 mile east of Friedensburg Rd., Oley, right on Rt. 662 .6 mile, then left on Bertolet Mill Rd. to stop sign. Cemetery formerly stood on bluff on right overlooking intersection. Site is located on the former John S. Rothermel farm; some stones copied by C.W. Unger in 1931. Size: 434' from Bertolet Mill Rd. up bank and into field x 225' from top of bank at Kauffman into field History: John Kirst, born in the Palatinate in 1700 emigrated in 1720 and settled in Oley. John married Eva Rosine Ritter. They had an only child John Henry who married Albania Gerich. They had 9 children: Henry, Jacob, Benjamin, Solomon, Samuel, Maria and 3 who died young. (MHBA, p. 1577) The Kerst or Kersten Mill was the forerunner of the Bertolet and in Pendleton's book is shown
in 1725, then in 1750 but not in 1775. Hearsay has it that ground was removed from the bluff for road construction in 1962. This seems not to have disturbed the grave pattern, although the pattern does continue right down to the edge of the road.

Observations: Graves are laying northeast to southwest. There are 40 rows from the Kauffman Rd. side into the field and 46 abreast
from Bertolet Mill into the field.
