Location: The Cemetery is located north of the Jones Rd., the Jones Community and West of LeConte Rd. Located on Union Camp Paper Co. land, it is inaccessible without a permit and a guide. A closed cemetery, the last marked burial was in 1956.
History: John Calder, Revolutionary War soldier, owned this Liberty County land before it became McIntosh County in 1793. He later purchased Contentment Plantation. This was originally a slave graveyard and Jones residents used it until 1956. The variation in spelling is the local designation. Most of the graves are Unmarked or Unidentified which are marked with wooden posts, railroad rail pieces, iron pipes or old fence posts which enclosed family plots. Because of its inaccessibility an accurate map has not been drawn. The Cemetery, surrounded by a firebreak, measures 375 ft. south to North and 255 ft. East to West. We are indebted to Julian Quarterman, Jones resident, for his help in locating and providing information on this remote Cemetery.
Recording began in the Mid-East area.
