History. McIntosh County's 24th dist. was the northwest portion until 1872. Archibald Baggs and Allen Johnston were plantation owners in this district. When the Savannah, Albany and Gulf Railroad built Depot No. 1/2 it was called Johnston's Station; it later became Ludowici. In 1872 the Georgia General Assembly included this district in Liberty County then in 1920 it became part of Long County. The Baggs Family Cemetery is East of Ludowici in Long Co. but this Baggs Cemetery, which may have begun as a slave cemetery, is in the Northwest corner of McIntosh Co. We are indebted to Julian Quarterman for the knowledge of and opportunity to record this remote cemetery. He states it is a "hundred years old."
Recording began in the Southwest corner to the Northwest corner.
