The Law requires that all executed prisoners must be buried inside the goal. They are buried in the ground between the outer and inner wall, also next to "A" wing, just outside the Gallows door. People who died of natural causes were buried in a conventional cemetery outside the goal. Number, initals and the date of the hanging are painted on the walls indicating the place of burial. A total of 45 people are recorded as buried after hanging within the goal, but only 34 of these have marked graves. The Old Adelaide Gaol is reputed to be one of the most haunted sites in South Australia. One website says:
Adelaide - Adelaide prison - There is a physic said she and local radio station team went to the prison for investigation. They took tape record and saw some orbs floating. The physic heard there was a little girl screaming and asked if the members heard it, one of the DJ did. The rest remains silence, when they went back to the studio. They played the tapes and did heard 3 level screaming voices, from faint to loud.
