The Kirschnerville Mennonite Cemetery or the legal title "The Society of the Amish Menoniten of the County of Lewis" was deeded in 1874. The farmland was original to John (pioneer and minister) and Catherine Steiner Moser. Additional strips of land (ca. 1925) were assumed donated by neighbors, Philip Moser and Solomon Widrick. Wooden grave markers of uniformity were replaced with stone after 1982. No written record is known to have been kept of individual graves prior to 1940. Acreage for the present cemetery is one acre plus another three acres for the total property.

The cemetery is located on the Erie Canal Road between Kirschnerville and Belfort, which is near the Mennonite Heritage Farm.

"According to Amish custom, burial was in order of consecutive death (until about 1915) and bodies lie facing the rising of the morning sun in the direction whence they believe Christ shall return." (Strangers and Pilgrims History of Lewis County Mennonites by Arlene Yousey, p. 140.)
