**** UPDATE 04/26/2012: Confirmed via historical cemetery records, and logs of interments, that this cemetery is in fact Mason Cemetery #4, it is also historically recorded as Gray Cemetery #2. Source: Cemeteries of Christian County, 2004, Christian County Genealogical Society. ****
Cemetery: Unmarked/Unnamed. We discovered this cemetery while searching for an old cemetery that was once know as "Mason Cemetery #4" which records indicate is in this general vicinity. Mason Cemetery #4 is the burial location of my 4G Grandfather, Joshua Mason. This particular cemetery remains on my list of possible suspects for Mason Cemetery #4, but no identifiable Mason graves could be located on site with during our visit.
Relational Area: This cemetery is located approximately 1700 feet SSW of Gray Cemetery. In relation to Gray Cemetery, this particular cemetery is across Jefferson Davis Hwy/Russellville Rd (68/89), and across little river; and about 700 SE feet from the nearby fork in the river. The cemetery is secluded in an island of trees in the middle of a farm field.
Directions by Road: From the entrance of Western State Hospital, follow 68/80;Jefferson Davis Hwy/Russellville Rd for approximately 4.3 miles then turn right onto Little River Road/Little River Church Rd and continue for approximately another 0.8 miles. Turn left onto on to the dirt/gravel farm road (not a public roadway), and continue for approximately 0.5 miles until the road comes to an end. At the time of writing this, the road ends at a barn. The cemetery is located in the island of trees to the left behind the barn. There is an old, rusted wrought iron fence (about 2-feet high) that has been put up around the cemetery. The gate to the cemetery is on the south side. The cemetery was heavily overgrown, but after a few hours of clearing brush and fallen dead trees by hand, five graves were identified. Three with headstones*, and two graves indicated by unmarked fieldstones. There may be more fieldstone markers, or fallen headstones that we overlooked as we had to stop our efforts as the day grew to a close.
Note: At the time of writing this, the farm land is private property owned by the Jenkins family who also live on Little River Church Rd. We spoke w/ Mr. Jenkins to obtain permission to visit the cemetery located on his property.
