This cemetery does no longer exist. It's history dates back to the 9th century when it was first documented. The first church building at this location was built in A.D. 836. The current church is the third one at this spot and was finished in 1854, it has room for 1200 people and when it was first used it was considered Germany's largest village church. The cemetery surrounding the church had been in use for over 1000 years but when Schötmar began to expand in the mmiddle of the 19th century the area was needed for the growing village. The cemetery was closed in 1837, the markers removed in 1839 and the cemetery was leveled by 1842. Some bodies and stones were moved to other cemeteries of the city. The area is now a mid-town market square.
The entries on Findagrave in this listing are taken from historic church records and will be updated as more information becomes available.
Some historic grave stones were placed around the church in 1985 as memorials to the former cemetery. But they came from graves of the Funeke-Friedhof. They DO NOT indicate the original burial spots of those people.
