The Lutheran cemetery is managed by the Reformed-Lutheran Congragation of Bad Salzuflen. It was consecrated in 1885. A structure that housed cholera stricken inhabitants of this region was temporarily converted into a morgue. Removed in 1895, a chapel was finally erected in its place in 1903/03. Again renovated in 1987 the chapel has been added to the list of historical significant buildings of the State of Nordrhein-Westfalen in 1994.

Please note that the graves in Germany are not perpetual. After a certain period of repose (in Bad Salzuflen it's 30 years) the graves are being leveled and re-used. There is no toxic embalming being done in Germany so the coffin and the corpse have decomposed naturally. If the family of the deceased decides to purchase another period the duration can be extended by another 30 years. War Graves are considered memorials and are kept up by the owner of the cemetery. Those are kept forever.
