Search Hanging Rock Presbyterian Church Cemetery:

Hanging Rock Presbyterian Church was organized sometime before 1788 and was probably the oldest church in the Heath Springs area. In 1790 James Love deeded two acres on which to build a church. The location was marked on the 1825 Mills map of Lancaster District. In 1806 and 1807 it was affiliated with the Associated Reformed Presbyterian Church but after that returned to the Presbyterian faith. By 1812 the church was extinct. The church building was used as a school house in the 1900's. The cemetery is set on a hill east of the Hanging Rock and must not be confused with the Hanging Rock Methodist Church cemetery. Apparently at one time it had been a large burying ground but by 1935 there were not more than 10 legible stones left.
