Castillo de Triana was built in the 10th century by Muslim occupiers. The Order of St. George changed the name to Castillo de San Jorge some time between 1248-1480. In 1481, it became the seat of the Spanish Inquisition until 1785.
Repeated flooding of the Guadalquivir River have destroyed much of the castle and the cemetery, but it is now open again as a museum and some of the cemetery is visitable.
