Blackmer Hill Burial Ground

  • off West Long Pond Road, Plymouth, Plymouth County, Massachusetts, USA
  • 4 Memorials added (25% photographed)

There are only 4 people buried here. The 2 slate stones here are shattered. There are 2 field stones here as well, and fieldstones make the establishment date of this cemetery unknowable.

At 96 West Long Pond Road, there is a house with a mail box that states the house number and the words "Apley House". On the right side of the driveway, there is a trail. About 20 feet along the trail there is a sign informing that you are on the "Blackmer Hill Trail". About 1000 feet up the trail, there is a sign informing your location as being within the 23 acre Big Point Preserve at Halfway Pond. There is a post with the number 10 on it, and a sign pointing west for the "Big Point Trail". This is a point, at this intersection of Blackmer Hill Trail and Big Point Trail, where it would be helpful to have a sign pointing east, because about 80 feet east off the trail into the woods is the burial ground.

The Massachusetts Historical Commission does not refer to this cemetery in MACRIS.

This burial place is referenced to in the book "Old Cemeteries of Southeastern Massachusetts" by Charles M Thatcher as "Douglass Cemetery Long Pond - Plymouth".

There is a geocache located within this cemetery called "Gallows to Grave".
