We think this is the location of the original Mt. Zion cemetery based on names and findings from the Waller County Cemetery Book published in 1967.
In 1872 Mr. Tom Sterling (a white man) gave 4 acres of land for a church, a school and a cemetery. This land was on the south side of Orange Creek. In 1923 grave digging became a problem to find space to prevent going down on old bodies, so this cemetery was abandoned and the new Mt. Zion Cemetery was established at it's present location.
This cemetery is at the approximate location as discribed by area residents.
