Add PhotosThis cemetery has become part of a new-growth woodland over the years. Only a few carved gravestones remain, along with several fieldstones and numerous shallow grave depressions. An old roadway is still clear, through the woods to the cemetery.
The church appears on the 1847, 1860, and 1883 maps of the township. The nearby homes of the MAYHEW and NELSON families also appear on the 1860 and 1883 maps.
According to an old newspaper article, two burials for which gravestones do not remain were for Joseph NELSON and Dan QUEEN, who died from a gunshot wound to the head during a riot at Lincoln University.
The community was in close proximity to the Pleasant Garden iron forge, which evidently gave employment to the residents of Flatfoot. A mansion at the iron works is said to have served as a station on the Underground Railroad. Other nearby workplaces shown on the 1860 map included a cotton lap factory and a paper mill.
