Add PhotosThe Eversfield-Bowie Cemetery is located at "Brookewood", which was home of Matthew Eversfield, son of Reverend John Eversfield, Rector of St. Paul's Episcopal-Baden and St. Thomas Episcopal-Croom churches. The property was willed to the Eversfield family sons over the years.
In 1858, Benjamin H. Eversfield received 130 acres where the original old family home was located. He built his home there and his family members are buried in the cemetery. One quarter acre was reserved for the Eversfield family members when the property was sold. Only one gravestone was remaining in the 1970s survey and it was badly weathered. It appeared to be the memorial for Susanna Bowie Eversfield.
In 1861, Benjamin Eversfield died and his heirs sold the land to Peter Wood. The Wood family members were interred at St. Paul's Episcopal-Baden, St. Thomas Episcopal-Croom and St. Mary's Episcopal Chapel, Aquasco. The home remained in the Wood family until 1953.
The cemetery was located at the point where the driveway enters the grounds from Duley Station Road. The single gravestone stood in a small grove of cedar trees.
