"A giant live oak tree, festooned with Spanish moss, guards this family graveyard on a hilltop swept by the wind, Township 3N, Range 1W, Section 13, a remote area of the county. The fence-enclosed plot, which commands a magnificent view of the fields and ponds, contains the grave of CHARLES BANNERMAN, a county pioneer who built his home here in 1827. Bannerman was one of several families of Scotch descent originally from North Carolina who settled the area near Lake Iamonia. His plantation totalled more than 600 acres, by 1860." - Cemeteries of Leon County, (Joy Smith Paisley, 1978)
