The late Futch family genealogist John Wise writes that the old Futch Family Cemetery is located "east of Statesborough (not Statesboro), in the lower southeast 'Bay Area' of Bulloch County, Georgia. DAR Revolutionary Soldier markers were placed on the graves of Onesimus [Futch] and his sons in July of 1918. Unfortunately, this family plantation cemetery was later destroyed by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers during a 1941-1943 area drainage project. The site of that old Futch Family Cemetery is said to now be underwater, near the eastern bank of Bulloch Bay in lower southeast Bulloch County, Georgia. It is unknown if any remains and/or gravestones were relocated from this old family cemetery before it was destroyed." The original German version of "Futch" was "Fuchs." In German "Fuchs" means "Fox."
