Add PhotosThe memorial markers for Simeon N. Brown and Lucy H. Brown are plain flat marble markers, and were placed by Mrs. Melinda Frances Bassett Brown, wife of Olia Bertrand Brown, who was the grandson of Simeon N. Brown and Lucy Head Brown. The fact the memorial markers were placed by Mrs. Melinda Frances Bassett Brown is validated by her son Paul Brown. Mr. Paul Brown believes there were only stones to mark the graves before his mother placed the current markers. Mrs. Melinda Frances Bassett Brown and her husband Olia Bertrand Brown lived in the home of James N. Brown III, father of Olia B. Brown from 1910 until 1919. Mrs. Nancy Williamson, the provider of this information, believes Mrs. Melinda Brown would have been well aware of where Simeon N. Brown and Lucy Brown were buried in the family cemetery. Mrs. Melinda Frances Bassett Brown was born 29 December, 1892 and died 1 February, 1979. She married Olia Bertrand on 15 November, 1910.
Of interest in the will of Lucy Head Brown dated 1871, Lucy Brown directed her executors to erect a suitable family monument if she were not able to do the same during her lifetime. Why many years after the death of Lucy Brown a suitable monument had not been erected, until Mrs. Melinda B. Brown erected a monument, will remain a mystery.
