NOTE: There is only three tombstones, standing in this cemetery.(Mary Taylor, died Dec. 14, 1904 and Maria COulter died July 19, 1926 and Elizabeth Coulter died June 3, 1913 (same stone) Walter Thompson March 11 to June 2, 1918)...2011 the cemetery is being clean up and the stones are to be placed in the cemetery, also the county home its self is being sold and tore down to build a new elderly housing units.I will get a picture of the home on here.
The county home is located in Lawrence Township in Clearfield on the old Leonard farm where famous eplorer Zenas Leonard (1809-1857) was born. THe home received its first "inmates" as the residents were called, in December of 1895. As many as 140 people were hosed there in 1917.
Soon after the opening of the county home, rsidents were being buried behind the bilding in a plot across the railroad tracks. Many did not have markers. The last known burials were in 1951. today there is nothing much that remains of this cemetery. Its location eas discovered in brush approximately 1,600 feet behind the county home building with only three markers found.
