The Wendel Trout II Memorial (Cenotaph) is a marker erected in 1976 by researcher/historian V. Kyle Trout and the Trout Association on a small parcel of land donated for this purpose by Sheldon Trout in memory of Wendel TROUT, II (1743-1820) on the location of where he established his farm in Hopewell Center, York County, PA on 20 May 1787.
• A "cenotaph" is a tomb or a monument erected in honor of a person or group of persons whose remains are buried elsewhere.
• Wendel Trout II (1743-1820) is believed to be actually buried at St. John (Sadler's) Evangelical Lutheran Cemetery, Hopewell Twp, York PA, although his stone is no longer evident. His wife, Elizabet DRUCKENBROD (1765-1825), is believe to be buried at his side, although her stone has also been lost.
Driving Directions: The Wendel TROUT II Memorial is located in East Hopewell Township on the south (right) side of Blue Ball Road approximately 1200' southeast of the intersection of Blue Ball Road / Edgars Road / Wheat Road, all being about 4 miles northeast of Stewartstown, York, PA.
