More than 200 of the earliest residents of Roslyn were buried here. The first burial occurred circa 1779, a victim of smallpox. Burial Ground located on the ridge of a hill overlooking the Bay and Sound in the north west corner of land which belonged to Washington Losee in 1879 and previously had been given to the public for the purpose of a public burying ground by William Valentine and sons. The original deed had been lost, in 1828 a new deed was given to Anthony Wilkey and Charles Stubbs for the nominal fee of $3.75 by Richard Tatterson.
