The cemetery is neat and well maintained. The local history book, “From Many People’s Strength. A Book of Memoirs, Hyas and Danbury District, 1906-2006”, has historical information about the cemetery. The Hyas Evangelical Covenant Church was organized in 1908 with the formation of the Svenska Kristna Scandinaviska Församlingen (Swedish Christian Scandinavian Assembly) in Wallinburg, a Swedish colony near Kamsack Saskatchewan. Victor Wallin, a pastor and organizer from Winnipeg, donated two acres of land 5 miles south of Hyas SK to build a church and cemetery to serve the Swedish immigrants taking up homesteads in the area. Services were initially held at the home of Revered Andrew P Johnson who had moved to the area in 1906 from Minnesota. The church building was dedicated in 1912 and served the community until it was moved away in 2001. All of the headstones in the cemetery were photographed in the fall of 2013 and added to Find a Grave.
