This is NOT an active cemetery.

The cemetery consists of one large monument and four footstones. The last known burial was that of Susea Perry Jenks in 1862. Access to the right side and back of the monument is impeded by a large multi-flora bush. Although her husband, Jeremiah, died in 1870, and most probably is buried here, there is no definitive proof so he is not included.

This cemetery is approx. 100 feet in from South Liberty Street. It is directly across from the intersection of South Street and South Liberty Street Although it appears to be on private property, it is maintained by the Town of Belchertown. The town access is along the rock wall.

According to the homeowner at 297 South Street, South Street originally passed around the cemetery and along the rock wall. Due to accidents, South Street was rerouted years ago to pass between their house and their barn and the intersection was changed. The old road way can be seen on the map satellite view.

Parking on the side of both South Liberty Street and South Street is not safe. The safer choice is to park across the town access point and walk. Pulling in and then backing out is not safely possible due to a blocked view for both oncoming traffic and the driver. The current homeowners allowed me to park in their driveway and cross their land to reach the cemetery. They do have two large, very friendly dogs. The house has stood at that location since 1790 and may be the residence of the Jenks family. The homeowners would love to learn more about the Jenks family.
