This cemetery has served a predominantly African-American community, and the latest known burial dates from 2001. A tax map shows the cemetery tract to be one acre, surrounded by privately owned land. There are at least 160 graves at this site - quite a few of which are unmarked or have no identification - and pronounced erosion, as well as unchecked vegetation, is currently threatening some of these graves. Speculation is that the cemetery began as a slave burying ground on the old SHIPPEY Plantation. It was at one time associated with an African-American school, as well as a Baptist church. It is located back in the woods on the north side of Willett Drive, near the intersection of Double Churches Road and River Road. The entrance to get to the cemetery is across the road and slightly west from the Shippey (aka Cummings-Shippey) Cemetery, which is right at the road on the south side of Willett Drive and is a relatively small European-American Cemetery.
