Couvent des Cordeliers

Not to be confused with the monastery of the Poor Clares that was also called Couvent des Cordelièrs, but was located in todays 13th Arrondisment.
Founded in 1230. Located on the area of todays Faculté de Médecine (6. Arr). The entrance was in todays rue de l'Ecole de Médecine. The franciscans were often supported by the royal family and several of their members were buried in the church. The convent was closed in 1790 and was during the revolution meeting place of the 'Club des Cordeliers'. In 1795 a hospital was opened at the convent which was enlarged in 1802. For this several buildings were pulled down.
