The first burial here was that of Matilda Jane Thomas on the 5th October 1895
thank you to Wendy on how this cemetery came to be ... "someone died at Ballance but they couldn't ford the Manawatu River to get the body into Pahiatua (Mangatainoka) as it was in flood and there was no bridge or punt back then. They called a quick meeting and decided they needed to have a burial place for this person on the Ballance side of the Manawatu River. A farmer gifted the township a plot of land and they buried the person at the now Mangahao-Ballance Cemetery"

As at September 2010 there were:
- 231 BURIALS in this cemetery and

Thomas Jeremiah Ness - killed Belgium
Athol Wallace Smith - killed in Israel 1917
Leonard Herbert Sowry - killed in France 1917
