This is the small family cemetery of the Chapman family who lived is this area for about 150 years. (1750-1900) Their manor house, Mount Aventine was built in 1840. The cemetery started with the burial of Pearson Chapman Sr. who died in 1784 and is buried in an unmarked grave.
The last burial took place in 1877. Today the land, including the manor house and cemetery belongs to Charles County Parks Department. Chapman Forest Foundation, Inc.,

You can visit Chapman Forest anytime between dawn to dusk. There is a portable restroom by the entrance road near the Mt Aventine house. There is no potable water available on site. Park at the entrance gate and go down the dirt road for a quarter mile until you reach the Coastal Woodland Trail, follow the trail for about 1 mile until you see the cemetery which is about a quarter of a mile from the Potomac River
