The monument is the only marker here.
This is a privately-owned cemetery. It was established in 1846. Today, there is a monument (erected in 1956) and one flat stone. However, prior to 1920, there "many" stones. Between 1846-1915, there were over 600 burials in the cemetery, but the cemetery was also being used as a dump. So, in 1920, all of the stones were removed, and the cemetery was cleaned.
There is a news story in the July 21, 1956 edition of the Taunton Daily Gazette.
Many of the stones mentioned above were placed in the Saint Francis Old Cemetery in Section 8. The stones are cenotaphs; the bodies are here.
The Massachusetts Historical Commission refers to this cemetery in MACRIS as TAU841.
This cemetery is referred to in the Taunton, MA Vital Records to 1850 Published by: New England Historic Genealogical Society as G.R.38.
