This is one of two cemeteries near Eccles Hill, the other being the Holden cemetery, whose markers are now removed to Abbott's Corner #1, Located on private property (Messier Bros. farm) south and east from Cook's corner (the junction of Ch. d' Eccles Hill and Ch. de St. Armand).
Two earlier listing exist for this cemetery, one by Phyllis E. (Vincent) Owen made in July 1966 and one Norma Young made in July 1976. I (David Ellis) personally surveyed and photographed all remaining markers in 2005. I have attempted to generate a correct listing by comparing a composite of both transcriptions with the actual markers. Norma Young first assigned ranges as "front" (range 1), "rear" (range 2), and loose stones (range 3) and numbered all from left to right. I have retained that format.
When Phyllis E. Owen made her listing in July 1966 she wrote: "These 21 stones were all that we found when my husband and a cousin, Ira A. Vincent from Enosburg Falls, Vt. had permission from the Messier's to examine the area set apart for this cemetery. The men used tools to unearth some stones which had fallen down and were coveredd completely by sod. Whether there were, at one time more gravestones here is unknown but we feel that we found all that were then in that plot. The Missisquoi Historical Society has erected an encasement of brick and mortar in which the more preserved stones have been set and the site is a more suitable memorial to those buried there."
