There is only one grave at this location, the grave of Meredith Fleming Pleasant Prater who died during an ice storm in 1888. He is buried on the family homestead, in a very, very remote wooded area and has a granite tombstone.

The grave is located in the SW 1/4 of the SE 1/4 of Section 20, Township 13, Range 25. My husband found this tombstone in the 1970's while logging in the area. In April 1995, I visited the grave, which required walking about 1/2 mile from the County road.

Directions: From Pettigrew go south on County Road #4685 for about 3 miles.

You will come to an intersection of County Road #4685 and County Road #4600...stay on #4685.

After about 1/2 mile there will be another intersection of #4685 with County Road #4645...stay on #4685.

You will see the Liberty-Sisemore-Williams Cemetery on the right side of the road. Continue on County Road #4685 for about 3/4 mile. Just before a green metal house on the left, there is a road which turns left and goes down a very steep hill. This road winds down the hill and has several sharp curves in it, going over a small bluff with a large pond under it. After traveling on this road for about 1/2 mile, you will reach a cable across the road with "private property, no trespassing signs". The grave is located about 2/10 of a mile further and is to the right of the road. The landowner has cleared (bulldozed) this area, planted grass, and has built a small cabin here. The Prater grave lies to the right of the cabin, just about 200 feet behind it. This is private property and you should obtain permission from the landowner before visiting this grave.

On the left side of the road, across from the cabin, there is a pile of old chimney rocks. We have recently been told that there were 3-6 fieldstone marked graves located about 250 yards to the left of these chimney rocks. A couple of people say that 2 of these fieldstones had inscriptions on them. However this area has now been cleared and these rocks cannot be found.
