An interesting note that may further confuse: A former owner of the land where the Bretz Cemetery is located also referred to this cemetery as Pretz Cemetery. This is likely because a farmhouse not far away on a 'century' farm is called Pretz Farm.
The former owner of this land also relates that the land where the cemetery sits was originally owned by Barstow Williams (thought to be G. Barstow Williams who has two wives, his father, a daughter, and one son-in-law buried at this cemetery).

Mr. and Mrs. Horace Baker and Mrs. Sarah Hurley and Mrs. Amanda McKay were in Columbus City and Columbus Junction, Monday. They were trying to locate the grave of the great grand father of the ladies and the great great grand father of the Bakers which they succeeded in doing in the Bretz cemetery about three miles southwest of Columbus City. A converted movement should be made by the present generation to better mark the graves of the old pioneers of this county, many of whom lie in neglected spots. Much credit is due to J. W. Garver of Columbus City for care recently given this particular cemetery which has only had one burial in it for 12 years.
(note: the above article seems to indicate that Bretz is southwest of Columbus City, but a quick look at the map shows that Bretz is almost due south. The article also seems to indicate one burial for a period of time. It may actually mean one burial in the last 12 years prior to 1915.)
