Fort Chambly National Historic Site of Canada is located at the foot of the Chambly rapids on Quebec's Richelieu River. Built by the French in 1711, the stone fortification was designed to protect New France from British invasion. It changed hands during the American Revolution, with Continental Army troops occupying it as they retreated after the 1775-1776 invasion of Canada and siege of Quebec City. Restored by Parks Canada, the site is now home to exhibits that showcase key moments in Canada's colonial history.
