Also known as the Ronemous Engle Cemetery, this family cemetery dates to at least 1757.
Located near the intersection of Shenandoah Junction Road and Flowing Springs Road near Duffields, West Virginia, this old family cemetery is in the middle of a farm on private property. Arrangements can be made for descendants to visit. The map location shows this intersection but not the location of the actual cemetery.
Beyond viewing and photographing actual stones, sources for this cemetery include:
-- A transcription by Mrs J M Miller published December 1934
-- "Tombstone Inscriptions Jefferson County, West Virginia 1687 - 1980" by the Bee Line Chapter NSDAR which was apparently based on the above
-- "The Melchor Engle family: history and genealogy, 1730-1940" by Winfield S. H. Engle (which can be accessed online through the Ancestry.com card catalog)
Please do not add names to this cemetery unless you have reasonable proof that they are buried here.
IMPORTANT NOTE: This cemetery was restored in the summer of 2015 by a group of Engle and Darke descendants. New memorials for Philip Engle and William Darke were dedicated by the DAR in 2016 and 2017, respectively.
