To get to the cemetery, turn off Seymour Avenue into Glenmeadow Lane. A series of apartment buildings line the street on either side. The buildings are arranged in “U”s. A sidewalk exists from the parking area of the third “U” on the right side of the street. The sidewalk goes around behind the building to the locked gate of the cemetery. The cemetery itself runs behind almost the half apartment complex buildings on the right side of the street.

Construction of the Longview Asylum was begun in the 1850s in Carthage along the Miami & Erie Canal and opened in 1860. In 1927, the state took over the Asylum and purchased more land, increasing the size of the complex to about 300 acres. The Asylum became the Longview State Hospital. As the size of the resident population decreased after the 1950s, much of the land was sold off. In 1981, the Longview State Hospital was closed. Operations were consolidated into the most modern portion of the complex, which, in 1984, was renamed the Pauline Warfield Lewis Center. The complex today is Summit Behavioral Healthcare.

The Longview Hospital Cemetery was originally on the grounds of the hospital complex, but, after sale of most of the hospital land, it is now separate from the location of the current healthcare complex. The cemetery was used to bury patients who died indigent or whose bodies were unclaimed. According to a 1998 newspaper article on the cemetery, the cemetery has 1,160 grave plots laid out with the final grave marker being 870. The last burial was on 4 August 1967. The grave markers consisted of small square cement blocks bearing the grave number.

The cemetery is located in the City of Cincinnati, Hamilton County, Ohio, and is # 4851 (Pauline Warfield Lewis Center Cemetery / Longview Cemetery) in “Ohio Cemeteries 1803-2003”, compiled by the Ohio Genealogical Society.
