"we had to enter from his land" "Some of the stones were in remarkable good condition, while others suffering from some damage, to be expected"
" the man I spoke with whose property you pretty much have to enter to get to this site told me, to the best of his knowledge, no one has been around in years to see these graves." " He said that he bought the property in 1968 and spent many early years walking in those woods."
"He also told me that the remains of two housing structures were clearly intact when he moved there, but had been mostly destroyed over time and we could no longer see any remnants (once again the land was just recently cleared from logged) and may have been cleared in the intervening years as well. "
"the stones facing East-Southeast have little fungus/lichen, buildup, while those facing elsewhere (or that are lying flat) are getting harder to read as is Edward Vann's marker"
"It is my initial belief that Anna's (Vann) stone has disappeared." "There is a stone next to John's that is about the same size, but broken off a few inches up from ground level." " I searched as best I could (There were lots of leaves, limbs and pine straw on the ground and I did not have a rake) but I could not find the stone."
"If this was Anna's grave ( and, given its equivalent size and proximity to John's, it probably was)"
Matt lives in Minnesota, but still have numerous relatives through out the Greenwood, SC areas. He gets back to the visit on a regular bases, and to do a little genealogy research when he's in Greenwood.
Thank You Matt
