The cemetery was founded on May 15, 1897 by the following people: H.H. Longsdorf, J.L. Williams, H.H. Weakley, S.T. Long, J. Beetem, J.H. Himes, L.G. Hosfeld, L.H. Shenk and C.A. Snoke. It was originally referred to as Centerville Cemetery. It was a public cemetery and used for burials for people regardless of religion.

It is not to be confused with Centerville Lutheran Church Cemetery which is a physically separate cemetery and was intended for burials of church members. Both cemeteries border the Centerville Lutheran Church but are on opposite sides of the church. The church now maintains both cemeteries.

The cemetery is accessible by turning into the Centerville Lutheran Church driveway, 1874 Walnut Bottom Rd (Route 174), Newville, PA. You will first pass the Centerville Lutheran Church Cemetery and then pass the Centerville Lutheran Church. Behind the church is an entrance to Centerville Memorial Park. The cemetery is also accessible from Centerville Road (Route 233). Turn on to Verna Street and it goes directly into Centerville Memorial Park.
