The first church was built about 1869 at the end of what is now Pioneer Road, running east off Herd Road.  It served the community for 24 years. On October 10th, 1893 the cornerstone for a new church was laid, close to the old location but on the west side of Herd Road.  This second church was used for a further 61 years before it closed.  The cemetery at the original church location is at the end of a quiet 250 metre dead end lane.  Most people residing in the valley are not aware of the existence of this cemetery.  The first burial took place in 1870. The cemetery is now administered and maintained by the Parks Department of the Municipality of North Cowichan.  By council bylaw "Only those persons and their spouses residing in the Cowichan Valley prior to 1900, and their direct blood descendants and spouses may be interred [here].
