The Old Mill Creek Church of Christ began with meetings in May of 1822. In December of 1840 the families of Wade, Collier, Hockman, Gabbard, Philips, Chastain, Stephenson and Gee left the Millcreek Church of Christ and began meeting at the Vernon School house in Vernon Township.
The land for the new log meeting house and cemetery was conveyed by deed dated 2-17-1846 by Merida and Pherobe Wade to the Trustees of Mount Tabor Meeting House of the Society of the Church of Christ. Description is one acre of section 18, township 2 north, range 3 east.
The log meeting house was used until 1874 when Benjamin Stephenson gave land for a new church and cemetery where the present Mount Tabor cemetery is located.
The cemetery is now fenced, but abandoned and most of the stones have fallen. The cemetery is landlocked and access is gained by crossing adjacent landowners.
The cemetery is located in Vernon Township (NW quadrant of the SW quadrant of the NE quadrant of Section 18, Township 2N, Range 3E).
Indiana Cemetery Locations, Volume 1, published by the Indiana Genealogical Society (02 April 2005), gives the primary cemetery name as Old Mount Tabor Cemetery.
The cemetery is listed in the Cemetery and Burial Grounds Registry of the Indiana Department of Natural Resources (DNR) and in the State Historical Architectural and Archaeological Research Database (SHAARD) with Cemetery Record Number CR-88-201 (Old Mount Tabor).
The Indiana Historic Sites and Structures Inventory (IHSSI) survey number for Mount Tabor Cemetery is 175-364-20023 with the dataset compiled in 2007.
