Canyon Diablo was a town set up by the Atlantic and Pacific Railroad about 1882 for the purpose of lodging workers building the railroad. The canyon is a couple of hundred feet wide and about 100 feet deep at this point, and a bridge had to be built. The town grew to about 2000, and was a typical wild west town, with many killings. At one time, there was a cemetery with at least 35 graves. No sign of these graves can be found, except for the marker set up after WW II by Hermann Wolf's descendants.
