This land was purchased by Hon. David Sears in 1820; homes were built in 1849 on this land, and then decided about 1862 that there should be a "place of worship in this area. where one might worship in the unity of the spirit and the bond of peace". The structure is a copy of a church in Colchester, England with modernizations; was finished and opened in 1866, and was/is Episcopalian. There was a crypt built as well for the family of Hon. David Sears.
