Asheldham, a hamlet and civil parish in Essex, England, borders the sea, in about the centre of Dengie Hundred, 2 miles north of Southminster, 4 miles S.S.W. of Bradwell, about twelve miles from Maldon, and 16 miles east-southeast from the county town of Chelmsford. The village is in the district of Maldon and is part of Asheldham and Dengie Parish Council. The early records- 1086- show the name as
Haintunic.
The rubble church (St Laurence/ St Lawrence ), considerably over-restored in 1866-1867, is chiefly of early 14th-century date; the two lower stages of the tower are probably a good deal older, the buttresses have evidently been added.
The church ceased use in 1986 due to a dwindling congregation and is now used as a youth centre.
