Cass County Poor Farm aka Potter's Field or Rest Haven Cemetery is located on Hospital Street, Location 1 1/4 miles West of M62 on Hospital Street. You must pass the Medical Facility, the cemetery is on the East side. Cassopolis, Jefferson Township. Cass County, MI.Graves in Potter's Field were originally marked with wooden headstones or crosses, these have vanished. Those buried were indigent residents of the Cass Co. Medical
Facility. In a partial survey there are approximately 46 known burials so far, most all of recently buried from the 1960's forward, It is not known if there are records prior to this time.

From HISTORY OF CASS COUNTY, MICHIGAN.-1882:
"In 1852 the matter of making systematic and adequate provision for the poor was first effectually agitated Up to this time there had been upon county poor farm in Jefferson Township bought Asa Kingsbury only a small log house Upon 12th of October 1853 the Board of Supervisors resolved to build a good sufficient and house on the poor farm owned by the county the expense of which should not exceed $1,200 resolution was afterward amended to read $2,000 place of $1,200."
